About this Calculator

This calculator will estimate the temperature of strike water needed to achieve a desired mash temperature. In order to perform this calculation, the total weight of grain in the mash is needed along with the volume of strike water and the initial temperature of the dry grain.

Strike Water Temperature Formula

The formula used for this calculation is as follows:

W = (0.2 / R)(TM - TG) + TM

In this formula W represents the strike water temperature needed in °F, R is the water to grist ratio expressed in quarts per pound, TM is the target mash temperature in °F and TG is the initial dry grain temperature in °F
