This calculator will tell you how much water you will need for a Brew in a Bag (BIAB) approach along with the initial strike water temperature needed to hit your desired mash temperature.
Boil Time (min):
Boil Off Rate:
Expected Trub Loss:
Grain Absorbtion (vol/weight):
The first step in this calculation is to determine the total volume of strike water required. This volume is calculated by adding the total losses (boil off, trub loss, and water absorbed by the grain, to the finished batch size.
Once the strike water volume is calculated, the mash water to grain ratio can be calculated, and this ratio can be used to determine the strike water temperature needed given the initial grain temperature and the target mash temperature. For more information on this calculation, refer to the strike water temperature calculator.
